Making Vows

The prophet Malachi included a short list of those who would be judged in his book. See Malachi 3:5.

“And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 3:5 (KJV)

In Hebrews 13:4, Paul reminded us that God will judge whoremongers and adulterers.

Although he was speaking in the context of the marriage relationship, I think this could also be addressing those committing spiritual adultery, such as those who profess to enter into a committed relationship with Christ but are unfaithful to their vows to love and serve Him.

My advice: Take all vows seriously. Why?

Because, “every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV).

Here’s a Scripture song with a serious message from Hebrews 13:4 –
